John Sboto has over thirty years of investigative, auditing, financial forensics and accounting experience. He specializes in fraud, financial, and corporate internal investigations as well as due diligence and litigation support consulting services.

John has served as fraud and forensic practice leader of Big Four certified public accounting firm, Deloitte & Touche. He was also west coast Director of Financial Investigations for international corporate investigative firm, Kroll Associates. He has also been a partner of a west coast litigation services consulting firm, audit manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and manager of internal audit with a major utility/energy company.

John has conducted investigations involving various types of financial and commercial frauds, including embezzlement of funds, theft and conversion of assets, construction loan frauds, vendor kickback arrangements, overbilling schemes, and investment frauds. He has participated in major corporate internal investigations concerning “whistle blower” allegations, illegal acts, violation of company policies and procedures, and other management/employee improprieties, and a variety of workplace issues. He has also represented insurance companies with investigations of complex fraud and employee dishonesty claims in a variety of industries throughout the country.

John specializes in asset searches related to enforcing judgments and court orders, and in providing litigation support services to attorneys in civil and criminal matters. This includes computer forensics investigations and electronic evidence gathering, locating key witnesses, and conducting interviews. He has performed fraud risk assessments and fraud prevention control reviews and monitoring and compliance services. He has performed pre-transaction due diligence and business intelligence services, including vetting of parties to proposed M&A transactions.

John is a licensed Certified Public Accountant with Certified in Financial Forensics specialization, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and state licensed private investigator. He is a former vice chairman of the Fraud Committee of the California Society of CPAs Litigation Services and a member of the Economic Damages Section. He has appeared as a featured speaker before various business and professional groups and serves on the planning committee of the Annual Financial Statements and Tax Fraud Conference sponsored by the California CPA Foundation. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, Fraud and Damages Sections of the California CPA Societies Litigation Consulting and Dispute Resolution Common Interest Members Section, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Institute of Internal Auditors, and California Association of Licensed Investigators.

John is a graduate of St. John’s University in New York and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Economics. His post graduate studies included courses and programs at the Bernard Baruch Graduate School of Business Administration/City University of New York and at UCLA Extension.
